This project was inspired by Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” album, where I blended several tunes with designer Gui Bonsiepe’s “Some Virtues of Design.” This project uses a harsh typeface to convey the tone and desperation of the album “Wish You Were Here,” which contrasts with Gui Bonsiepe’s “Some Virtues of Design,” which uses a formal and structured voice.

Typographic designs for merchandise mixed in with their classic album designs.

My goal was to create a typographic book in which I could experiment with a variety of mediums, including paint, charcoal, scanning textures, vellum, sewing, and debossing, while also working with a stiffer academic form of text that would contrast in a contained way, providing relief for the viewer. In addition to the book, I updated Pink Floyd’s website to match the book’s style and to modernize their existing outdated site, which I felt did not reflect their music. Pink Floyd’s website has been redesigned to feature their history, store, and homepage.

The scope of this project expanded to include a website redesign and a typographic book that served as a visual depiction of Pink Floyd’s music through type.
